We made a quick stop at Meteor Crater, which is just that… a huge meteor crater. It’s 1.2 kilometers wide, which is hard to grasp when you’re standing on it’s rim.
There is actually a mine shaft at the center of the crater where the owner of the crater, Daniel Barringer, was hoping to find an iron meteor weighing 100 million tons. No such meteor was ever found, but the family still owns the crater, and make lots of money from tourism.
There is a nice visitor’s center with a gift shop, and informational theater.
